WHAT IS THE BRIGHTROCK BATTLE OF THE SPORTS
We have invited the four biggest sports in South Africa, Cricket, Rugby, Running & Soccer to select 3 Proteas, 3 Springboks, 3 Ultra Marathon Runners & 3 Bafana Bafana players each, to participate in the event. Erik Vermeulen, a renowned South African adventurer, will be the Guide on each team. So each team will be made up of four participants : three iconic sports legends and Erik.
The Challenge we have set each team, is to cross over the Verneukpan on foot and pulling their provisions on one light frame cart on ‘fat-boy’ mountain bike tyres, unassisted and unaided, for 200km’s around the Pan. We have given each team 4 days to complete the trip.
WHO IS TAKING ON THE 200KM CHALLENGE AT VERNEUKPAN
The teams have been selected to include the most famous names in the sport with huge social media and fan following, and are made up of the following athletes:
- RUGBY: Hanyani Shimange, John Smit & Schalk Brits. Managed by Butch James.
- RUNNING: Bongmusa Mthembu, David Gatebe & Nick Bester. Managed by Bruce Fordyce.
- SOCCER : Matthew Booth, Siyabonga Nomvethe & Teko Modise. Managed by Neil Tovey.
- CRICKET: Makhaya Ntini, Lance Klusener, Monde Zondeki, Managed by Jonty Rhodes

Run, cycle or even dance 200km, as an individual or a team, and do your bit to raise funds to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa.
Each person participating will be asked to donate to the Event To Aid fund, in support of PPE for frontline healthcare workers.
